Securing investment requires organisation and planning to make the process as efficient and effective as possible. Using an investor pipeline spreadsheet can help you keep track of your interactions with investors.
Part of our aim at SeedTribe is to help impactful startups find angel investment. Through our parent platform, Angel Investment Network, you have access to over 200,000 angel investors. However, securing investment involves a lot more than simply being able to contact investors: in requires organisation and planning to make the process as efficient and effective as possible. Using an investor pipeline spreadsheet can help you keep track of which investors to approach and your interactions with them.
How it works:
The sections are designed to help you categorise investors based on the areas they tend to invest in, the amount they usually invest and how likely they are to invest. To find potential, relevant investors there two factors to consider:
- Theme: has the investor invested in the same field that your business is in? Are they any areas that they are particularly interested in supporting, for example, female founders or impact businesses? A way to find relevant investors is by looking at similar startups and the investors who have invested in them
- Amount: how much do they tend to invest and how much are you looking for? - don’t be afraid to be bold and ask them this question directly!
Once you have drawn together a list, by ranking each investor based on their relevance and likelihood of investing, you can order the investors based on priority. You can then determine who to approach and when, helping you to waste less time and increase your chances of successful investment. After you have started contacting investors, keep track of who you have contacted, and if there is any follow up required.
By structuring your investor research and outreach, the process of fundraising will become more organised, streamlined and, hopefully, less stressful.
So good luck and happy fundraising!
